Manchaca Fire/Rescue (MVFD) is the Fire Department which serves the areas just south of the City of Austin to the Travis County boundary line. This includes subdivisions such as Bear Creek, Onion Creek Meadows, the City of San Leanna, and Shady Hollow. The coverage area includes about 21 square miles and a population of 20,000. MVFD has a contract with the North Hays County Fire Prevention District to provide fire protection to some areas adjacent to MVFD’s primary response area. This area includes the subdivision of Chapparal Park and those areas accessed off of Bliss Spillar Road.
MVFD provides fire protection, rescue and medical first response to those living within or traveling through our area. MVFD operates out of five stations located throughout the district and operates 14 vehicles ranging in size from a command vehicle to a 3500 gallon tanker.
MVFD contracts with the Emergency Services District #5 to provide services to the area. ESD#5 is the local taxing authority which levies taxes on property evaluations to provide funding for emergency response. ESD#5 currently has a tax rate at $.10 per $100 evaluation on a home. For a home valued at $100,000 that would equate to $100 per year the homeowner is paying to receive fire protection and medical first response.
